Professional Swine Management offers turnkey farm management as well as a la carte services to the family farms that are part of the Carthage System. Click on the services listed below to learn more.

  • Production

    Our production team provides full-time, daily around the clock management of facility and animals. Our production teams care about he health and quality of the pigs they produce and the staff that they lead. Production management team members conduct regular on-farm visits to identify and implement best practices within the pig industry. Our team coordinates all on-farm employee training. This includes implementing our best in class Standard Operating Procedure manual, biosecurity requirements, animal welfare and husbandry protocols. Additionally, the team trains the staff on how to monitor production records to review trends and improve efficiencies. Our production services include: oversight of all on-farm emergencies, coordination of all on-farm maintenance, implementation of animal health protocols, monitoring farm costs, conducting audits, coordination of regulatory visits and providing accountability to board or manager representatives. Carthage System maintains detailed tracking records of genetic performance, of both maternal and terminal carcass characteristics. Our research partners test new genetic lines alongside existing sources to ensure genetic performance and economic performance targets are met.

  • Human Resources

    Our human resources (HR) team provides full-time HR services to the farm including recruitment, retention, benefits, and safety compliance. Our skilled recruiting team manages the recruiting and hiring process by hosting and attending job fairs, in-person and online recruiting, interviewing, and validation of the hiring criteria. HR staff conducts detailed orientation and training with all new employees prior to placement on the farm and continues contact through regular performance review processing and disciplinary action if needed. Our team manages complicated employee benefits, workman’s compensation insurance, and safety compliance on behalf of the farm. The HR team monitors ever-changing employment law requirements and coordinates with outside legal counsel to ensure farms meet requirements. Detailed procedural manuals are maintained to ensure best practices are implemented. Employees are also educated in managing pig flow to meet production targets and biosecurity requirements to maintain high health status.

  • Logistics

    Our logistics team coordinates the transportation of all animals on behalf of the farm. Logistics staff creates, maintains, and adjusts delivery schedules based on production and customer need, often forecasting several months into the future. Our team is well trained in biosecurity requirements and coordinates with the transport providers to ensure compliance of truck wash practices. Additionally, the team provides Total Quality Assurance (TQA) certification to any new or existing drivers to meet Carthage System requirements. Our logistics team holds a broker/dealer license and works to secure buyers and the best pricing available for any groups identified as ‘extra’ pigs to maximize return. The team also monitors open market wean and feeder pig prices to provide accurate feedback to customers and owners on the potential sale prices of any available groups.

  • Environmental Sustainability

    One of the PSM core values is our commitment to the environment.  The environmental staff maintains the overall site appearance of each managed farm, including implementing a tree planting strategy, scheduled mowing, and managing the site maintenance of the landscape. Our environmental team coordinates with government agencies to ensure compliance with state, federal and local regulations, in addition to negotiating manure easement agreements on behalf of the farm. Professional Swine Management, LLC actively participates in the We Care initiative.  We ensure strict compliance with government mandated environmental policy is maintained inside and outside our managed facilities.  We do this through strong environmental stewardship that ensures the production of safe food, practices that protect public health, protect natural resources, and contribute to a better quality of life in our communities.

  • Nutrition

    Our nutrition team includes highly skilled PhD nutritionists that develop diet formulations, maintain quality control and manage diet budgets. The team works closely with feed mills and farm managers to ensure quality assurance and addresses all aspects of feed and nutrition for the animals. Nutrition is provided to system farms by sharing feed formulas, prescribed diets, pricing comparisons on ingredients, and body condition score feeding sheets. Our nutrition team performs herd visits to evaluate condition, feed usage and diet adjustments per the request of the consulting veterinarian.

  • Administration

    When your farm becomes part of the Carthage System, we manage all administration for you. This includes management, accounting, record keeping, transportation and marketing. We tailor our services to each individual client based on the needs and demands of the business.

  • Accounting

    A key focus for Professional Swine Management, LLC is the cost of production. We utilize a robust accounting package that is tailored to meet the specific needs of swine production and each type of enterprise in the production chain. Services include full financial statements including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, budget to actual comparisons, cost per pig statements, detailed general ledger, executive summary, processing accounts receivable and accounts payable, preparing and filing full tax returns and tax projections throughout the year, performing all payroll related functions, monitoring commodities, making capital calls and distribution as applicable, and assisting the unit with debt financing as needed. Accounting packages can be customized to meet the special needs of each producer/investor group.

  • Production Records

    Professional Swine Management, LLC tracks reproductive data for the system utilizing OCR technology with Agritec Porcitec swine management software. With Porcitec’s unique power and flexibility, we are able to analyze your data from virtually any angle, from standard reporting, to custom reports designed to provide you with the decision-making information you need. Statistical Process Control (SPC) of key performance indicators helps management focus on the real problems on the farm, and not be subject to normal week-to-week production variation, thus enabling consistent, long-term progress. Report updates can be distributed to your herd veterinarian for consultation, as well as to production and farm management staff. Our knowledgeable and friendly Sow Records team will make sure you get the information you need, when you need it, to monitor production, make decisions, and increase the profitability of your sow herd.  Special database analysis, gilt group tracking, farrow card printing and software training are all part of our personal service.

  • Finishing Records

    From weekly death loss and load charting, to group inventory management and closeout reporting, our Finishing Records staff can meet your finishing group data management needs.  They can collect your harvest data, providing fast turnaround reporting on individual loads as well as overall group that looks at weight distributions and standard deviation.  Benchmarking can compare your farm specific data anonymously to other producers by packer.  In addition, Statistical Process Control (SPC) is performed on key performance indicators.  All are designed to help you make better feed, marketing and sales decisions to improve your productivity and profitability.
